Sicily is characterised by geographic isolation on which economic, transport, environmental, social and demographic criticalities depend. The current situation shows an objective disadvantage with respect to the continental regions, although a series of regional strategies are underway to catch up with the other EU regions and Italy. The research focuses on the evaluation of the factors characterising the current scenario of the Sicilian transport offer and proposes some actions and strategies to improve the mobility of passengers and goods (also in a combined manner) considering the areas of the island with the lowest transport demand, i.e. the internal areas.
Tiziana Campisi is assistant professor at the Department of Engineering and Architecture, University of Enna Kore. Her main research interests focus on urban planning and mobility issues, in particular on the analysis of passenger transport supply and demand and last mile logistics. Co-Editor in Chief and Guest Editor of several indexed journals, referee of several international scientific journals, she is author of more than 160 publications.
